Welcome to Hobble Hill Farm Store
" Suri " The Ultimate Natural Fiber. Suris are a rare , elegant , and unique fiber producing breed originating from the Andes Mountains of South America. They produce an environmentally friendly , naturally lustrous fiber with exquisite handle that feels luxurious next your skin. Suri fiber is more lustrous than cashmere , finer than mohair , more cuddly than silk , and naturally flame retardant. It's also strong , durable , washable and hypoallergenic. When spun into yarn and woven into fabric , it produces some of the finest textiles on Earth. In 22 distinct natural colors , Suri fiber is truly 'eco' fiber of the future.
The number of these unique animals had dropped to dangerously low levels and hybridization with other camelid breeds was endangering their unique genetic heritage in their native lands. Suris are now undergoing a successful renaissance here in the U.S. They have been resured from extinction and are now raised with care on America's small farms like us here at Hobble Hill Farm.
The rarity of Alpaca is it only limitation. The world produces less alpaca fiber than almost any other fiber type. Of the commercially recognized fibers , only Vicuna , the alpaca's ancestor , is more rare. The Incan Kings recognized the alpaca's unique qualities and reserved its cloth for the exclusive use of their royal court.
Today's consumer searches for high quality , environmentally sound products made of naturally renewable resources. The alpaca provides fiber , just as it has for thousands of years , to create warm , coloful garments , soft to the touch. Classically styled alpaca sweaters and suits last for generations.
We sell or Suri alpaca products at local markets and shops. Our animals are shearedonce a year in the spring , where some of our raw fleece is sent off to local mills for processing. We do have the raw fleece as well as rovings that are ready for spinning , and of course the finished products. Some of which are made right here on the farm. We like to keep a picture of the alpaca along with the fleece and yarns so you can actually see the alpacas themselves. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments that you may have about our products. We are always more than glad to help. Have a happy alpaca day !
